FOR CONSUMER REPORTERS AND PRODUCERS

"Send us your quote": a consumer segment that repeats every week.

Viewers send in a real repair or contractor quote they are unsure about. QuoteScore scores it 0 to 100 against pricing benchmarks and flags the line items worth asking about. The reporter takes those questions to the contractor. Every episode is a local viewer and a real document.

How an episode runs

1. Viewers send quotes

The station asks viewers for a photo or PDF of a quote: a roof, a furnace, a brake job, a driveway. The station keeps the viewer relationship; we never contact viewers.

2. We score them

Each quote gets a 0 to 100 score and a line-by-line read: what each line costs, the normal range for it, and which lines came in high. We can pre-score a batch before air so the producer picks the strongest case.

3. The reporter asks the questions

The segment is the conversation with the contractor: "your quote has this line at twice the usual range, what does it cover?" Sometimes there is a good answer. That is a story too.

4. Viewers check their own

The tool is free with no account, so viewers at home can check a quote the same night.
